At the heart of RVGA are the growers who work the land and join in community to share and learn from one another, and inspire each other. In support of what they do, we organize a range of forums, meetings, and workshops during the year.
We send out e-letters with information and links to ag programs throughout the Hudson Valley. We collaborate with other organizations such as Cornell Cooperative Extension, American Farmland Trust, Hudson Valley Agribusiness Development Corp., USDA, Farm Credit East, NYS Ag & Markets, Scenic Hudson and others to bring updates, news of innovation, and availability of resources for growers. We are part of the Hudson Valley Farmer Training Network led and organized by Glynwood Center to improve communication, collaboration and synergy among an increasing number of providers of farmer training services across the region.
Our interactive programs – which are held on local farms and in community centers – are open to growers from the Rondout Valley and surrounding areas. Some of the topics we cover are:
• Farmland protection and purchase of development rights
• Farm succession planning
• NYS Ag & Markets law
• Farming practice and innovation
• Best practices for livestock growers
• Pasture walks highlighting soil health and pastureland grasses
• NYSERDA, USDA, and Farm Credit East programs for farms
