Wooskee Indigenous Lifeways Afterschool Program

Open to all youth age 5 and up, as well as adult family member volunteers
$10-$30-$50 sliding scale fee for youth

With the support of Neetopk Keetopk and The Center for Algonquin Studies, Seed Song Farm & Center has launched the Wooskee afterschool program sessions. Wooskee is a word describing the young of any species of animal.

This program features special guests of all ages from our local indigenous and allies group partners, and passes down skills, stories, and lifeways traditions to participants.

On Wednesday, June 1, Evan Pritchard leads the group in constructing a wicwam frame made with curved saplings in the Micmac tradition. JD Alexander will share a story and drumming. If time permits we will create the mounds of the Three Sisters garden for planting heritage Lenape corn.

On Tuesday, June 21, participants will join members of Neetopk Keetopk to plant the Bean and Squash Sisters into the Three Sisters Garden, continue work on the wicwam, and celebrate the Summer Solstice. Families are welcome to stay afterwards to participate in a Summer Solstice Ceremony led by the Neetopk Keetopk group.

To register, simply sign up for the afterschool program of June 1 and/or June 21. Make a note on your registration if  (a) you’d like to apply for a scholarship; (b) the sliding scale fee you would like to pay is different than the standard afterschool fee; or (c) there are adult family members that would like to come volunteer.
